Gestern Abend wurden im Vorfeld zur gamescom 2012 die European Games Award 2012 verliehen, der größten Online-Wahl mit über 230.000 abgegebenen Stimmen. Als größte Gewinner stellten sich die polnische Produktion The Witcher 2: Assassins og Kings und der schwedische Egoshooter Battlefield 3 heraus. CD Projekt RED konnte mit dem zweiten Teil der Witcher-Saga ganze sechs Awards einheimsen, darunter die für das beste Charakter- und Game-Design. Der Titel wurde zum Best European Game gekürt. Battlefield 3 hingegen konnte die Awards als bestes Action-, Multiplayer- und Konsolenspiel gewinnen.
Zum besten europäischen Publisher wurde Wargaming.net gewählt, deren angekündigtes World of Warplanes bereits zum Europes Most Wanted Online Game gekürt wurde.
